OnePlus Nord 5 Review
The OnePlus Nord 5 offers solid everyday performance, robust battery (depending on region), and improved thermals. However, its camera needs steadiness or software tweaking, the chipset feels underwhelming next to newer rivals, and the lack of UFS 4.0 and premium materials is disappointing for the price.
Here is a complete A-to-Z in-depth review of the OnePlus Nord 5
Display & Build – Premium Yet Practical
Starting with display
The Nord series phones consistently impress us with their displays. They feature a 1.5K 144Hz Swift AMOLED display, which, while it could be LTPO, is not this time. Nonetheless, it still delivers a very good content viewing experience. With HDR 10+ and 1 billion colors & ultra HDR image support this display offers crisp visuals and deep blacks. It reaches a peak brightness of 1800 nits, making it suitable for outdoor content viewing in most situations. However, there seems to be an issue with the 144Hz refresh rate, as many users report that it rarely achieves the full 144Hz. Nevertheless, it remains a great display for both content consumption and gaming.

Design & Body
In hand, the device feels very premium, even though it has a plastic frame, which is a bit disappointing at this price point. However, the back is fully glass-covered with tough glass, and the front is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 7i, making it surprisingly resilient to drops from a considerable height. It weighs around 211g, which is slightly heavy, but it’s well-balanced, so it doesn’t feel overly heavy in hand.
The device is IP65 rated, meaning it’s splash-proof and can withstand light rain while also providing good protection against dust. Overall, it feels durable, has a premium matte finish, and features pleasing curves.
In comparing the Nord 4 to the Nord 5, the only downgrade is the plastic frame. Opinions are mixed; some people believe plastic offers better heat dissipation and reduces the phone’s weight, while others miss the full metal body design of the Nord 4.
Audio & Sound Quality
Speakers are loud and clear. Stereo dual speakers make music or content listening experience loud and well balanced. Supppports Dirac audio tuning. No 3.5 mm Headphone jack because of its 8.1 mm thickness. Nothing to complain here.
Let’s Talk About the Camera
“Capable but inconsistent“

The rear camera setup consists of two sensors: a 50MP Sony CMOS sensor (IMX906) and an 8MP ultrawide sensor. The main 50MP sensor captures decent images, especially when held steady. It performs well in outdoor scenarios, producing clear images in daylight or good lighting conditions. However, the night photography performance is not as strong, though it is still acceptable. The 8MP ultrawide sensor is somewhat underwhelming; while it’s a handy addition, it doesn’t deliver the best quality.
The selfie camera is also decent in good lighting, with acceptable low light performance. This camera features a 50MP Samsung ISOCELL JN5 sensor, which is a new addition to this lineup. The image quality is good but not exceptional, with accurate skin tones; however, it sometimes misrepresents age in portrait mode.
Both the front and back cameras are capable of recording video at 60fps, and they include Gyro-EIS, ensuring decent video quality. For content creators, this setup allows the production of quality content.
Software and Performance
This phone is running on OxygenOS 15, which is based on Android 15. OnePlus is well known for its operating system, which offers a smooth experience without any lag or freezing issues. It features a clean user interface with no bloatware and fast, fluid animations. Additionally, OnePlus has made significant improvements by incorporating AI technology into their system. And it promises up to 4 years major update and 6 years of security update, that is really good.
Performance – Fast but not Class-Leading

The Nord 5 is equipped with a flagship chipset known as the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, which is based on 4 nm technology. This chipset promises good performance and decent battery life. It’s great for everyday use, multitasking, and providing a smooth user interface. In gaming, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 performs exceptionally well. For example, Genshin Impact can run at 60 fps on mid to high settings, while Call of Duty and Warzone can achieve 90-120 fps, and PUBG runs around 75-90 fps. Although high frame rates can lead to increased heat, there is a vapor chamber for cooling that significantly helps during gameplay. The AnTuTu score is approximately 1.4 million. While it may not be as fast as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, it’s a solid performer for its category. The device comes with 16 GB of LPDDR5X RAM, which supports strong multitasking and allows for seamless streaming while gaming. The storage option is up to 512 GB of UFS 3.1, which, although it could be UFS 4.0 given the price range, still provides good performance. Overall, this device can meet your needs for daily multitasking and gaming. “Performance well but feels like last year’s flagship”.
Battery & Charging – strong performance

The battery is good, featuring a capacity of 6800 mAh, which is more than sufficient for daily users and gamers alike. It can support gaming for up to 5 hours, while normal usage can last a full day. Additionally, it comes with an 80W SuperVOOC charger right out of the box. While there are other brands that offer 120W charging, this speed is still fast enough for most users, allowing the phone to charge from 0% to 100% in just 45 minutes. The lack of wireless charging is a minor drawback, as we are greedy for more features. Overall, this phone remains strong in its category.
Connectivity
It is a 5G phone that supports dual SIM (no eSIM). It supports WiFi 6, Bluetooth v5.3, and NFC, but lacks an IR blaster.
